With the ever-growing demand for mass timber construction in South Africa, a topic of discussion from a production point of view is always cost. Keeping input costs low versus the market selling price affects the bottom line. For this reason, optimising all facets of the production process is key to running a profitable business.
Adhesives are vital in producing finger-jointed timber, glulam and cross-laminated timber products. Still, surprisingly, it is, in most cases, the smallest contributor to input costs if applied in a controlled and precise manner.
Depending on the adhesive technology and production process, application methods can vary from basic hand application to pressurised spray, precise bead, semiautomatic and fully automatic roller application systems.
