Talkmore Kanda is the marketing manager of Allied Timbers, Zimbabwe’s state-owned entity responsible for domestic and export timber sales under the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
In a conversation with Justin Nyakudanga, he says the government recognises the country’s forestry industry to be a strategic player in the built environment and economy. Forests are a carbon sink, and timber is a critical and renewable resource.
He foresees the Zimbabwe forestry sector maintaining its relevance and broadening its influence to other areas, such as the tobacco industry and furniture industries.
