A forest of officials attended the recent handover of the Mission, Nqamakwe and Mgomanzi plantations to the Tobotshane, Amahlubi and Amazizi traditional councils in Butterworth, Eastern Cape by the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Barbara Creecy and her deputy, Makhotso Sotyu.
The spokesperson of the Amathole Local House of Traditional Leaders, Chief Ndabele Bangisizwe Mtoto, accompanied the leaders of the Tobotshane, Amahlubi and Amazizi traditional councils, Inkosi Bikitsha, Inkosi Nhyila, and Inkosi Silinga.
The latest handover marks the signing of 19 new community forestry agreements (CFAs) with communities adjacent to state-owned plantations in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal. It brings the total of transferred plantations to 27, comprising 6,210 hectares in three years.
