The John Deere 1470H wheeled harvester prepares for action.

John Deere’s next generation of 1270H and 1470H wheeled harvesters are equipped with many improvements designed to boost productivity, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance operator comfort, all while standing up to the rugged demands of forestry work in Africa.

John Deere’s global reputation in agriculture and forestry is built on machines like the 1270G and 1470G wheeled harvesters. Owners and operators appreciate these machines for the resilience, reliability, and productivity gained from powerful engines and excellent fuel efficiency. Smart-assist features like the Intelligent Boom Control (IBC) system have enhanced operator precision since 2013.

Power redefined

The H-Series models boast a 9-litre high-performance John Deere engine offering 10% more power and torque. It is paired with a new hydraulic system with three dedicated pumps, simultaneously operating the harvester head, boom and drive. The result is significantly higher productivity and lower fuel consumption per cubic metre harvested, a huge plus for operations focused on sustainability and profitability.

Next-level stability and reach

Forestry operators will appreciate the Active Frame Lock. This feature enhances machine stability on steep slopes and level ground. It also allows for easier operation when the boom is extended sideways, providing a larger, more stable working area.

Speaking of booms, the new H7 and H9 harvester booms provide around 10% more lift power. The H9 model also benefits from 5% more slewing torque than previous versions. With boom lengths ranging from 8.6m to 10m, these machines can easily accommodate a wide range of attachments and applications.

Ergonomics redefined

John Deere redesigned the rear chassis, rotating the engine 180 degrees and improving layout efficiency. Hydraulic oil, fuel tanks, and pumps are now at the front, while the fan and cooler are positioned at the rear creating a quieter cab and greatly improved rear visibility. The rotating and levelling cab, now standard, can turn 220 degrees, adding an additional 30-degree swing to either side.

Inside, the cab has been reimagined with a user-friendly climate control system, optional five-button joysticks, various seat upgrades, and a new secondary display, making long shifts more comfortable and productive.

The new cabin design is based on operator feedback. The modernised cabin design matches the design of the H Series machines. Noise-isolating materials are used in the cabin interior. The relocated fresh air intakes and improved climate control ensure a stable temperature in changing conditions. The new H Series comes with better-quality lighting for increased visibility around the working area.

The new interior design gives the operator more storage space. A phone tray with a wireless charger, a place for shoes, a water bottle, a cooler, and a lunch tray table.

Other features include a new secondary display for base machine functions and cameras, multiple charging outlets, a new pedal for selecting drive direction, and a new premium audio system with subwoofer and treble speakers. New armrests and controls and configurable key buttons. Programmable button joysticks are now available in the H Series harvesters.
