NRCS and the DTIC workshop on preservative treatment of timber
The NRCS, amongst others, is responsible for the administration of VC 9092, the Compulsory Specification for the Preservative Treatment of Timber. It covers requirements for the manufacturing, importation, marking properties, distribution and selling of treated timber.
Over the past few months, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) and National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) received numerous complaints from industry stakeholders and consumers about the sale of illegal treated timber. In view of the above, the dtic in collaboration with the NRCS invites industry stakeholders to an awareness workshop on VC 9092.
The purpose of this workshop amongst others is to (i) provide an overview of the mandate of the NRCS; (ii) the requirements and administration of VC 9092, the Compulsory Specification for the Preservative Treatment of Timber; (iii) the protection of consumers from buying illegal treated timber that may just have been painted and not properly treated; (iv) detrimental effects illegal treatment of timber has on the environment and the economy; (vi) receive feedback from stakeholders on the overall impact of the VC and enforcement measures, (vii) collectively develop an action plan to resolve current enforcement challenges.
Parking space in the street in front of the SAFCA building is limited, but attendees can park at the Garden Court Inn (OR Tambo) which is just up the street and short walking distance.
